Activities for the week ending Thursday April 18th, 2019
1. FRIDAY 05 APRIL 19 – Commanding Officer’s Parade
This coming Friday Night we will be having our Commanding Officer’s Parade. There will be Marksmanship and Fitness Qualifications handed out this week for those that have qualified.
-Dress of the Day – Cadets – C-1
-Officers – NO.1
-CI/CV – Sqn Civilian Uniform

Cadets are reminded that if they can make the parade night they are requested to call or text the squadron cell phone of their absence with who they are, date of absence and reason why. Phone number 289-440-2641
2. Drill Team with Arms and With-out Arms Practices – Full Day Practice
This coming Saturday, 06 Apr 19, there will be a Drill Team with Arms and With-out Arms Practice from 9am – 3pm. Dress will be civilian attire, bring your parade boots and wedge and a jacket. There will be practices outside and on the parade deck. The SSC will provide a BBQ lunch and canteen will be available throughout the day. We will be continuing with both teams practicing on Tuesday Nights.
3. Open Range Nights – Continue on Thursday Nights.
These Nights are open to all squadron cadets that have completed their Range Safety Course or Re-certified on the range. Marksmanship training starts at 1830 and ends at 2100hrs
4. WARNING – MOUNTAIN ROAD CLOSURE – 15 APRIL – 17 MAY 2019
Attached is a Notice to Residents sent by the Niagara Region to those occupying homes and facilities on the top of the escarpment on Mountain Road. Starting on Monday April 15th and lasting until Friday May 17th, Grimsby Mountain Road has restricted access from Main St West to Ridge Road West. With this restricted access, it is suggested that you use one of the following for travel to and from the MRCC:
For those coming from Beamsville and live on the East side of Grimsby, it is suggested you take Park Rd. S. to the top of the Mountain to Elm Tree Rd. E. to Mountain Rd. to the MRCC. For those coming from the West Side of Grimsby areas West of Casablanca Rd, it is suggested you take Wolverton Rd up the Mountain to Ridge Rd. W. to the MRCC.
6. AAA Aviation EXPO – Jazz Hangar – Pearson Airport – 14 Apr 19
**THERE ARE STILL A FEW MORE SLOTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS ACTIVITY**
On Sunday 14 April, 62 Sqn will be attending an aviation Expo being held at the Jazz Hanger at Pearson Airport. On hand will be companies from all aspects of aviation so that the cadets can mingle with the vendors on hand to find out more information on what is available in the aviation market in the way of employment, education institutions, etc.
While we do not have specific timings as of yet, 62 Sqn will be attending with a bus of cadets to a maximum of 40. We have opened this trip to cadets Level 2 and above. OCdt Hannus is the OIC. A sign-up sheet will be out again this Friday Night for those interested. This is a FREE activity for all cadets’ level 2 and above. More info in the coming weeks.
7. Air Cadet Gliding Session – 40 Cadets – 13 Apr 19
**THERE ARE STILL 10 SLOTS AVAILABLE FOR THIS ACTIVITY**
The first of three Gliding Sessions will occur on Saturday 13 Apr 19. There are 20 slots available in the AM and 20 slots available in the PM. Sign-up sheet for both sessions will be available this Friday for those interested with selected cadet’s announcements on 05 Apr. OIC Lt Vaughan
8. Alternate Parade Night WARNING
Due to the upcoming Easter holiday (Good Friday), we will be parading on Thursday 18 Apr in lieu of the Friday Night.
9. Air Cadet Tagging Sessions – WARNING NOTIFICATION
The week of April 25, 26, 27, 28, the squadron will be doing their Spring Tagging Session to raise funds for Squadron Operations. Each cadet is reminded that they are required to do 2 sessions over the course of the weekend which does not include the Friday Night session for level 3 and above. Sign-up sheets will be out this Friday night for both cadet sign up and parent drivers. Mom’s and Dad’s, we really need your assistance with this event in the way of drivers.
